From Complex Design to Perfect Hair Claw | Custom Hair Accessory Manufacturing Case

At the early stage of this project, our client shared an intricate hair claw design characterized by complex shapes and delicate linework. During the initial inquiry, the client focused on mold development costs—a common concern when working with detailed acetate structures. 👉 What is acetate?

To help optimize both budget and production time, we introduced our proven “glued teeth” structure, explaining that this technique can achieve the same effect as molded teeth without the need for an expensive mold. We also shared photos of previous successful samples for reference, allowing the client to visualize the process and evaluate feasibility.

Balancing Design Complexity and Manufacturing Feasibility

As we entered the detailed design discussion, we discovered that several of the original lines were too thin to be executed entirely through acetate splicing. Such delicate lines, if fully spliced, could compromise both structural stability and aesthetic quality.

On the other hand, converting the entire pattern into UV printing would simplify the process but result in a flatter appearance and less tactile richness—something that high-end acetate accessories should never sacrifice.

To solve this, we proposed a hybrid process combining splicing and UV printing:

  • Thin and detailed areas were rendered via high-precision UV print.
  • Main structure areas retained authentic acetate splicing.

This approach perfectly balanced craftsmanship, visual depth, and cost efficiency, preserving both the beauty and integrity of the client’s original design.

Accurate Color Selection through Visual Verification

Next came the color matching stage. Based on the client’s design tone and target market, we preselected several color card options from our extensive palette of more than 800 acetate shades.
To ensure accuracy and avoid potential screen color deviation, we recorded real-sample videos under various lighting angles, showing how each shade appeared in natural and studio conditions.

From Sample to Perfect Fit

After confirming all details, we quickly arranged the pre-production sample. The first sample achieved the expected visual effect, and the client was very satisfied. However, they raised a new request—the hair claw should hold more hair volume.

To address this, we suggested a larger-sized model, scaled proportionally from the original. We printed the enlarged outline on A4 paper and placed the physical sample over it, helping the client clearly compare both sizes visually. Once confirmed, we proceeded to mass production without delay.
